SubHuman Theatre
SubHuman Theatre is a phantom, a topic. SubHuman Theatre is focused on decoding the language of modern myths and encoding them in new creatures. SubHuman Theatre explores the transitional states of the human body by focusing on his marginalization, to the intersection between man and technology, human and subhuman as a sub-product of the social, political, economical and cultural situation. SubHuman Theatre is an interdisciplinary platform, including theatrical acts, performances, digital technologies, interactive installations, drawings, videos and art theory.
SubHuman Theatre was created in 2004 by the visual artist and scenographer Venelin Shurelov. Since then, the project involved many artists and art organizations (Intercult-Sweden, Zavod EXODOS-Slovenia, Offucina-Italy), presented a significant festivals in Bulgaria (DA Fest-Sofia, International Theatre Festival “Varna Summer”), Europe (Globalize Cologne-Germany, Dimanche Rouge-Finland, Prague Quadrennial- CZ) and USA (Fusebox-Austin, TX). The latest project is a Bulgarian-German co-production “Merry-Go- Round”, collaboration between in:takt e.V. and theatre-51grad.com.
